Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara

Angelino native, writer-performer, Rubén Funkahuatl Guevara, has been creating music, poetry, fiction, and theater for over 50 years. In 2013, he was designated a Boyle Heights Cultural Treasure by the Alliance for California Traditional Arts and was recently tagged the unofficial poet laureate of Boyle Heights. His life memoir, Stoke the Fire, Kiss the Flames edited by George Lipsitz and Josh Kun, is currently being considered for publication. His solo theater piece Confessions of a Radical Chicano Doo-Wop Singer, based on the memoir, premiered at Casa 0101 Theatre last summer and is set to tour next year.
