El Nacho: Van Bots
Featured Work of Nacho Gallardo
In 2014, the hurricane Odile made its presence noticed in Baja California Sur, México. The region became damaged excessively due to the combination of chemical components that were not designed to be combined outside of the parameters created by man. As an example of such interactions in a drastic manner, mechanical and semi-human forms named VanBots rise being created through an unexpected combination which consisted mainly of steel, copper, lead and wood.
Destined to be ignored and criticized because of their origin, they refuse to accept the reality of the region: Damaged with no sign of hope in sight. The VanBots start to coordinate with the local population either an emergency evacuation, or a reconstruction of the damaged area to prevent further expansion of the contamination.
However, because their origin is from mechanical and toxic damage, they are viewed as an additional danger to the area instead of a support team to help organize the immediate geographical evacuation. The population became violent towards the VanBots and towards any local Californian who would agree with their presence in the region. This resulted in chaos with additional loss of human life along with the destruction of many human constructions.
The confusion and hysteria of the local Californian community created a massive wave of violence towards the VanBots as well as towards any human being who would accept the VanBots' aid. Blaming the VanBots for the disaster Odile left behind, a decree which authorizes its immediate expulsion is mandated. Their efforts went ignored and the Baja region continued with its mental state of violent trauma without sign of being able to move on past this disaster.
